The Holocaust of a Woman

Getting out of the country was never a plan, she even resisted to the idea of waking up in a place that an hour later would take her to the same college where she was trained as a teacher by conviction and vocation.

Over a thousand times I saw her refuse the proposal of going beyond the border of the small but big Island, the possibility of putting distance between any place and everything she thought indispensable to breathe.

But the resistance started to weaken as the economic situation worsened, one of the many reasons why people around the world migrate. It turned into chaos and the only option would be to try a different professional context. Only God knows how hard it was for her to take the first step. The date still resounds in her ears August 22, 2014.

The decisión was made. Thousands of questions piled up in her mind and heart. How to turn back oh her children?, who would take them breakfast to bed despite their 22 and 27 years old?, who would wait for them every afternoon after work and say good night with a kiss?, who would scold them and give the always necessary piece of advice? Or simply, who would spoil them as little kids?

Second Sunday of January 2015. Endless hugs and a silent cry not to sadden mom...a stream of sorrow drawn on her face hidden behind a trembling hand while waving good bye.

Airport. Over three hours without saying a word. The pain of a mother that leaves her children “forced by life”, finds no comfort; the helplessness of a woman cannot be tamed.

After two months in a foreign land, she would fulfil a new task with excellent students and new teachings. Perhaps she was beginning to endure the distance and the absence with less pain.

A new challenge began, despite the suffering of being far she felt the joy of a new lesson appreciated by her students, a new family at the university with whom now shares success and sad moments. And the most important thing: her children and parents have overcome the new circumstances, their quality of life has improved and she has learned that it is worth the effort.

Fortunately, today, the protagonist of this store thanks God for giving her the capacity to beat the storm, since there are many people around the world who did not get to fulfil their goal and did not have a happy ending.

Tow years has passed and she has learned to love the new land. It won’t be out of her heart every time she thinks of each important place of her life.
